Marie Antoinette Inspired Birthday Party

Hello lovely foodie friends!  My daughter Abbie had a birthday right in the middle of Christmas and New Years and I want to show you some of the pictures from her party.
Please forgive the photos, the party was at night and I had a hard time getting them right!
I had fun making all the pretty sweets. These are raspberry tarts. I bought some raspberry filling for the cake and had some left over so I piped some in my ready made tart shells and topped them off with a swirl of pink whipped cream and a sugar flower!
Here’s a closeup. They turned out really pretty I thought!
Next, I made some Rose Scented Meringues. I used my favorite 1M Wilton Tip, and piped them in rose shapes, then sprinkled them with some pink sprinkles. They were yummy!
I wanted to have French Macarons, but I didn’t plan ahead and didn’t have any aged egg whites. The meringues were almost as pretty!
For Christmas, I asked Santa to bring me some french Pink Champagne Biscuits. I was so excited! I thought they would look pretty on Abbie’s pink sweets buffet. I tied them in pairs with some pretty pink sparkly rik rak that I had and put them on my sweet vintage plate. So pretty, don’t you think?
This Marie Antoinette inspired dessert is what Southern Living calls a “French Cream”.  I have had the recipe for ages in my notebook, and finally had a reason to give it a try! The photo from the magazine had their dessert decorated with crystallized flowers. I’ll try to take a picture of it and post it here later. It is a tangy dessert which includes cream cheese, heavy cream, and sour cream!! I thought the recipe would also look lovely in little individual molds, which I will try later.
This was Abbie’s birthday cake. I used a basic vanilla cake recipe from Southern Living, filled it with raspberry filling and lemon swiss buttercream, and topped it with swirls of lemon buttercream. I have got to learn to “crumb coat” better because the cake turned out with waaaaaay too much buttercream! It was funny, but it tasted good!
Again, I used my Wilton 1M tip to pipe rose swirls on the cake. I am by no means a cake decorator and am really clueless when it comes to cakes, but I’m getting the hang of that one technique! LOL
Here’s a peek inside!
Can you say Sugar Overload?!!
I really didn’t like the way the table looked with the wallpaper behind it. I have been drooling over all these beautiful dessert buffets on the internet and thought I’d give it a go, but I think a solid background would have been better.

It was a fun birthday party with enough pink in it to satisfy Abbie. I think Marie Antoinette would feel right at home don’t you?! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Just gorgeous and precious! I swoon over everything. Funny, I was just thinking about you today when I was pondering over whether to try some new French cookies. I think you just gave me the nudge I needed!
